Taking a "Mancation" - A Trip Just for the Guys

MancationDid you hear that? It’s the sound of collective sighs of relief from all of the men out there who have been given the “go ahead” from their wives or significant others to go on a little getaway with their guy friends, or for lack of a better term, we can call it a “mancation.”

Now that you’ve gotten the go ahead for the “mancation” what are you going to do? Believe it or not, vacations for groups of men and women are becoming more popular and travel agencies are starting to cater to group getaways. Here are some tips to help get the ball rolling for a great “mancation” that will make you not care about the long “honey do” list waiting for you when they get back.

All vacations take planning, so make sure to get the basics squared away before moving too far forward. First, you need to determine who all is going, the time of year you will be traveling, and your travel budget (for airfare, food and lodging).

Though you may have a lot of guy friends who would like to participate, try to plan your trip with those who have similar interests. It will be much more fun if everyone is on the same page, than having to worry about trying to accommodate one or two people – who though they are always fun to hang out with, want to do totally different things during your trip.

Next up is the ever-important budget. Be sure to come up with at least a ball-park figure of what everyone is willing to spend on travel expenses like hotels and airfare so you don’t waste time on looking into travel destinations that you will not able to afford. Also, try to pick one or two people to head up the planning and be the main points of contact to avoid confusion and mis-information.

After the budget, pick your destination. There are a number of niche vacation ideas that cater to the “mancation” that range from ski or golf packages, to deep sea fishing, or, for the living on the sort, race car camp. If you are looking for something with a little more flash, you can always go with Vegas, as it is always a popular travel spot for both men and women.

A “mancation” is a great way for you to bond with your guy friends, and recharge your batteries. Also you are less likely to talk about everyday stresses like work, or finances, and instead focus on having a good time. Yes, your “honey do” list will still be there for you when you get back – and it will probably be longer than it was when you left – but it will all be worth it!
